Women in the Church

JUNE 27, 2006

We forward you this announcement on the role of women in the Church because we support the right of women to gain the recognition given to them by Jesus, the Christ.

As with so many other issues, the Archdiocese of Miami "talks a good party line" but when the real issue
of the role of women in the archdiocese is evaluated, there is little other than ceremonial roles assigned!
Of course, all women are invited to clean the Church.

Is this what Jesus taught? Is this the example of regard for women that Jesus gave?

We think not.

If the women of the archdiocese (in fact, the entire Catholic Church) didn't attend the Eucharist for one weekend, there would be empty Churches. Once again, the hierarchy simply doesn't get it. No women,
no Church!

Within the next 15 years, there will be a real shortage of priests. Are parishes just supposed to shut down because there is not enough male clergy to staff these places of worship? What about women Deacons -
the Catholic Church had them before - as they did married clergy? Maybe this is why the Archdiocese of
Miami asked us to remove the link to their website - they didn't want the People of God reading about the
male dominated positions of decision-making and the "power base" of those in our archdiosecan hierarchy who don't live by the Magisterium or Canon Law.

We enourage all men and women of Faith to continue the move towards real social justice in our own
Catholic Church.
